ABSTRACT
Cascade PI Controller-Based Robust Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) of a DC-DC boost
converter is presented. Non-minimum phase behaviour of the boost converter due to right half plane zero
constitutes a challenge and its non-linear dynamics complicate the control process while operating in
continuous conduction mode (CCM). The proposed control scheme effciently resolved complications and
challenges by using features of cascade PI control loop in combination with properties of MRAC. The
accuracy of the proposed control system's ability to track the desired signals and regulate the plant process
variables in the most bene_cial and optimised way without delay and overshoot is verified using
MATLAB/Simulink by applying comparative analysis with single PI and cascade PI controllers.

1.1 INTRODUCTION
WORKING
• The proposed control approach combines a Cascade Proportional-Integral (PI) controller with Model
Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) to improve the stability and performance of a DC-DC boost
converter, especially given the challenges posed by its non-minimum phase behavior and nonlinear
dynamics in continuous conduction mode (CCM). The Cascade PI controller structure addresses these
complexities by managing both current and voltage responses, while the MRAC component
dynamically adjusts control parameters to maintain optimal performance. This combination
effectively minimizes issues like delay and overshoot, ensuring accurate tracking of desired signals
and stable regulation of system variables. The control strategy’s effectiveness is validated in
MATLAB/Simulink, showing superior performance over traditional single PI and Cascade PI setups.

CONCLUSION

In this study, a robust Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) approach with a cascade PI
controller was designed for a DC-DC boost converter to improve system stability and performance. The
cascade PI controller manages inner and outer control loops, enhancing control precision and response
speed. Integrating MRAC provides adaptability to changes in system parameters and varying load
conditions, ensuring robust performance. The results demonstrated that this combined control strategy
achieves superior voltage regulation, faster transient response, and better resilience against disturbances
compared to traditional control methods, making it an effective solution for stable operation in dynamic
environments.
