INTRODUCTION
In this presentation we will discuss about :
 What is CNC?
 Evolution of CNC
 History of CNC
 Types of CNC machines
What is CNC ?
• CNC is stands for Computer numerical control.
• Numerical control is the automated control of machining tools by
means of a computer.
• A CNC machine processes a piece of material to meet
specifications by following a coded programmed instruction and
without a manual operator directly controlling the machining
operation.

EVOLUTION OF CNC
• Metalworking and fabrication was performed by numerical
controlled or NC machines before the invention
of CNC machining.
• These NC machines were created in the late 1940s by John T.
• It was not till 1967 that the idea of computer-controlled
machining started to circulate.

History of CNC
• A modern mainstay of manufacturing and production, computer numerical control, or
CNC, goes back to the 1940s when the first Numerical Control, or NC, machines
emerged.
• However, turning machines appeared before then. In fact, a machine used to replace
handcrafted techniques and increase precision was invented in 1751.
• The machining techniques that led to CNC manufacturing marked the start of
industrialization.
• Today’s definition of CNC machining is more specific. It involves entering 3D files into
a computer, which runs a program that controls the motion of tools within a
machining center.
• The process is fully automated, from the axis and speed of rotation of cutting tools to
achieving the desired dimensions of the part.
