Vocabulary
Year 7 Literacy
How many words can you
make from the word…

VOCABULARY
You have 2 minutes: the person with the highest
number of words (3+ letters) will win two merits!

The person who can find the longest word will also win
a merit! (The word ‘vocabulary’ doesn’t count!)
Extending your vocabulary
Challenge: I am going to read out ten sophisticated
words. Can you spell them all?
Answers: mark your partner’s work
Make sure you note down the correct
spellings!
1. Calculating
2. Disguised Do you know the meanings of all of
these words?
3. Embellished
Come up with a synonym (or a phrase
4. Frivolous meaning something similar) for each
5. Kaleidoscopic word.

6. Luminous You can use a dictionary if you need to,


but you are not writing a definition.

8. Thunderous No thesauruses allowed!
