NETWORKING

INTRODUCTION
A computer network can be defined as a group of computers and other
peripheral devices that are linked together for the purpose of sharing
data and hardware resources
TYPES OF NETWORK
There are various types of networks depending upon the geographical
are which is covered by the network worldwide.

 PERSONAL AREA NETWORK [PAN] :-It is a computer network which is


created for an individual person. It is used to link the devices of one
person only. Like the smart phone of one person is connected to the
computer of same person.

 LOCAL AREA NETWORK [LAN]:-In this network two or more computers


are connected to the one computer in a short area. Example in a
computer class there are 20 computers and all are connected to one
of then.
 METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK [MAN]:-This network is somehow like
LAN but it has a wide area of network than LAN. This network spends
out in a city. Example city cable network and branches of local bank
in a city.

 WIDE AREA NETWORK[WAN]:-This kind of network connects two or


more computers located at a great distance places. They are linked
by communication facilities, like telecommunication or satellite
signals.
SOME FACTS…

 Wireless is a means of communication that uses low powered radio


waves to transmit data between devices.
 Wireless networking allows the networks to be deployed without
cabling. Spaces, such as outdoor areas where cables cannot be laid.
 WIFI stands for wireless fidelity. It represents wireless local area.
 Wireless access point [WAP] is a device that connects wireless
communication devices to form a wireless network.
 Bluetooth is a wireless technology used to interconnect mobiles.
