GETTING READY TO

TEACH ONLINE

Credits to: Uno High School

KEEPING THINGS SIMPLE
REMEMBER:
THINGS ARE NOT THE SAME AS BEFORE

• Focus on what you can control.

• Everyone needs time to adjust.
• Do not expect to run an online classroom the way you
run a physical classroom.
DO ONE THING AT A TIME

1. What is your first must-to-do today?

2. What is your second must-to-do?
3. What is your third must-to-do?
4. If you have only 6** hours to work today, how will you budget those
hours among your must to-dos? (**What is the realistic number of
work hours for a teacher per day?)
5. Do you have some time left? What can you do to fill the remaining
hours?
START SMALL

• Begin with something manageable

and achievable.
• Learn something new each week
(e.g., a new LMS feature).

Your primary goal is to facilitate learning

of your students, not to be highly-
proficient at using technology.
Proficiency will come later.
KEEPING THINGS ORGANIZED
AGREE ON THE DIGITAL TOOLS TO USE

• As one teaching team, list down your common tasks and

agree on the tools to use for those tasks.
• Avoid using multi-platforms for the same task. Multiple
tools can confuse or overwhelm students – and you.
• If one tool can support multiple tasks, maximize the use
of that tool.
GROUP ACTIVITY: IDENTIFY THE TOOLS FOR TEACHERS
TASK TOOL
Conduct synchronous learning

Conduct asynchronous learning

• Record a video lesson

• Edit a video

• Where to upload or store edited videos

• Where to share online reading materials and other learning references

Give a quiz

Give homework

Give seatwork

Create a formal online discussion (for Gr 5 to 12)

Send formal memo to parents or guardians

Send reminders, instructions, and memos to students (Gr 5 – 12)

Send reminders, instructions, homework, and memos for younger students (K-Gr
4) and their parents or guardians

List down other tasks and the corresponding tools, as necessary.

GROUP ACTIVITY: IDENTIFY THE TOOLS FOR STUDENTS,
AND THEIR PARENTS OR GUARDIANS
TASK TOOL
Submit homework
Ask teacher a question
Report a technical issue with the LMS
Report a technical issue with a tool recommended
by the school

Note: Problems with apps (e.g., Zoom, Loom, Viber) must

be reported to the technical support teams for those apps.

List down other tasks and the corresponding tools, as necessary.

CREATE OR CURATE
CREATE OR CURATE

CREATE CURATE
• Make PowerPoint slides. 1. Research for an existing content
• Record videos. on the Internet.

• Produce a podcast. 2. Collect the titles, links, and

description of presentation
• Write articles or blogs . materials, videos, podcasts,
• Produce other digital materials. reading materials, etc.
3. Share the titles, links, and
description ALONG WITH YOUR
OWN INSIGHTS and INPUTS.
CURATE CONTENT

Avoid overwhelming your students with too much content and remain efficient
when curating content.
1. Search online using topics or keywords.
2. Gather only the first three resources you find relevant (not the first three
that appeared).
3. Rank them based on how each resource meets the learning objective.
4. Share the resource that got your highest ranking.
5. Discuss the content with your class.
6. One of the criteria is to choose language suitable for your group of learners.
7. Use videos with speakers using neutral accent.

USE THE SURVEY FEATURE ON THE LMS AND EVALUATE
EACH CLASS FOR AT LEAST FOUR WEEKS
• What are three specific things about the class or teacher that helped support your
learning? Tell us how these supported your learning.
• What are one to three specific things about the class that could be improved to better
support your learning? Tell us how these could be improved.
