LESSON 3: FARM ESTIMATION AND
BASIC CALCULATION

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1.1 Follow procedures in reporting to appropriate person/s the
estimate of materials and resources
1.2 Perform estimations or calculations to be done according to
the job requirement
1.3 Employ different techniques in checking accuracy of result
Today, our government encourages everyone to Plant! as a
flagship program of the Department of Agriculture. It will help us
to have a sustainable food supply.

Now a days, more people are engaging in agriculture. One of

this is Mario. But Mario is new in farming. He arrived months ago
from the foreign land as retired domestic helper. He bought a 2-
hectare farm land as his investment. He wanted to develop his
farm but knew little
in farm operation.

Will you please help Mario to estimate things he needs in farm

inputs?
WHAT IS ?

FARM INPUTS- These are the different resources that
are used in crop production.

LABOR INPUTS- These are the energy needed so

that the production grows.

LAND PREPARATION- The process of preparing the

soil for planting, to provide a soil environment
favorable for plant germination and/or growth.
FARM INPUTS
-Farm supplies – these are the essential materials needed
in crop production. The number or amount needed is very
important to minimize unnecessary expenses.

Seeds - a mature ovule consisting

of an embryonic plant together
with a stored food, all surrounded
by a protective coat. It is used to
propagate plants easily.
Fertilizers – a substance that Pesticides – a substance
supplies nutrients to the soil used to kill pests.
that are essential for the
growth of a plant.
LABOR INPUTS
-Also use tools and equipment to make the labor easy and to
secure the production activity.
1) Labor requirement for land preparation such
as:
* Mechanical plowing or plowing using a Carabao
* Mechanical harrowing or harrowing using a Carabao
2) Inputs in labor requirement in planting such
as:

Broadcasting the seeds Transplanting the seedlings

3) Inputs in labor requirement for plant care such
as:

Applying fertilizers Applying Weeding

pesticides
Irrigating the farm Harvesting the crops Storing harvested
crops
In estimating those farm inputs, we
need to know the situation of the farm
such as the
land area, the necessary farm inputs in
order to estimate the needed money
and to allot the
budget correctly to run the production
of the farm.

1. In meeting the farm owner, you must gather the
following data of the farm.
▪ Land area
▪ Crops to plant
▪ Sources of water for irrigation
▪ Available farm tools and equipment

2. Determine the owner’s plan to his farm.

▪ What he wants
▪ What is the farm management plan
3. Determine the estimation of farm inputs.
▪ Farm supplies
▪ Labor requirements

4. Calculate the farm inputs.

▪ Calculate the needed amount for the operation of
the farm
▪ Shows the total amount needed in the farm
operation.

5. Give the result to the farm owner.

6. Budgeting/Revision if there are changes made by
the farm owner.
▪ This part is the allocation of money or budgeting
based from your estimation and calculation.

7. Finalization of the farm estimate and calculation.

8. Give the final draft of farm estimates and

calculation to the farm owner.
Let’s help Mario!

Mario has 2 hectares of farm. In estimating the needed inputs of

Mario, all farm inputs such as the needed farm supply and labor
requirements in the whole farm production. In terms of farm
supply, make sure it will be multiplied to 2 hectares.

After listing down all the needed farm inputs, you may now put
the necessary amount to each inputs. Compute the amount and
you have now an estimate of a farm inputs.
Listing down farm inputs

Directions: Enumerate the needed farm inputs below.

Requirements.
Directions:
1. Make a project proposal with your group’s maximum of
10 pages A4 size of bond paper, submission November 22,
2024 Friday.
2. Visit Ataya garden. Ask someone working there
farmer/gardener for farm input, farm labor, farm
preparation and do some estimation of what is needed to
sustain the ataya garden
3. Format in making project proposal will be send in your
respective GC’s per section
