Forging Process
Forging Process
• Metal forging is the process in which metals are formed and shaped using compressive
forces. The forces are delivered using hammering, pressing, or rolling.

Here are some of the more common methods used:
• Hand Forging
• Press Forging
• Compared to other manufacturing methods, metal forging is known to produce some of the
strongest manufactured parts available. As the metal is heated and pressed, minor cracks are
sealed and empty spaces found in the metal are closed up.
• Another way that forging strengthens metal is through the altering of its grain structure. This
has to do with the material’s grain flow as it deforms. Like other forming processes, a
favorable grain structure can be created, making the forged metal sturdier.
Advantages of Forging Process
1.Forged parts are stronger than parts made by other methods like casting or machining.
2.The process allows the customization of parts to meet specific design requirements.
3.The parts have a longer lifespan than other parts made by casting or machining.
1.Forging is not suitable for producing complex shapes or parts with intricate details.
2.It is a time-consuming process, especially for larger parts, which can take hours or even days
to complete.
3.Forging is generally limited to materials like steel, Aluminium, and titanium. Other materials
such as plastics or ceramics cannot be forged.
