• The short-term measures proposed by the Board include
“industrial pollution control, monitoring arrangement and
demarcation of areas” which require Rs. 182.4 crore. In the
long-term measures, common effluent treatment plant,
common pipeline for treated effluent, electricity supply
improvement and continuous monitoring of water and
ambient air quality have been suggested.Telemetric linkage,
mobile units for air and water quality monitoring, patrolling–
cum–emergency response squad, sewerage and sewage
treatment plant for Kakkanad, sewerage and sewage treatment
system for the Greater Kochi area, rejuvenation of canals,
remediation of contaminated sites, incinerators, e– waste
treatment and disposal facility have also been proposed as
long-term measures.

• Various interventions have been taken by the state
government, central government, and different ministries at
different time periods in order to control air pollution in
Himachal Pradesh.Although control measures have been
introduced in the state from time to time to combat the
pollution levels but the pace at which the emission levels
have increased is very high compared to that of control
measures.number of on-road vehicles have increased and as
result emissions from the transport sector has increased
tremendously. Looking at this, government has formulated
an auto fuel policy which establishes mass emission
standards. But the norms are not similar throughout the
country and the timelines set for applicability of these norms
is very far in the future.

• the Union Government promulgated another identical legislation which was
exclusively meant to deal with the problems of air quality and preservation
and maintenance thereof. Environment (Protection) Act, 1986: In order to
provide the existing legislation for control of water and air pollution more
effective and to remove the deficiency of these legislations, the Union
Government enacted umbrella legislation in 37th year of Republic. The prime
objective of the legislation was to plug the existing statutory gaps whereby
tremendous responsibilities by way of functions have been entrusted to the
State Board. The following prominent rules and notifications are significant in
context to the role and functions of the H.P. State Pollution
