CIRCLE
 A circle is a simple closed figure formed by a set
circumferen
ce

of points that are at an equal distance from a

fixed point is called a circle.
 The fixed distance from the centre is called
radius.(r) r
 There are infinite number of radii in a circle

 A line segment that passes through the centre of d

the circle and whose end points are on the circle
is called diameter.(d)
 There are infinite number of diameters in a circle.

 The diameter is twice the circle.

 The circumference is the length of the boundary

of a circle. It is the perimeter of the circle.
IMPORTANT
TERMS chord

 CHORD- A chord is a line segment that joins arc

any two points on a circle. Diameter is the

longest chord of a circle.

 CONCENTRIC LINES- Two or more circles

that have the same centre.
 ARC- Am arc is a part of a circle between
any two points on it. Concentr

INTERIOR & EXTERIOR OF A
CIRCLE
The points that form the boundary of the circle are said to lie on the
circle.
The points that lie inside the circle are said to lie in the interior of the
circle.
The points that lie outside the circle are said to lie on the exterior of the
circle.
The boundary of the interior and exterior region of the circle together is
called circular region.
SEGMENT OF A CIRCLE
THE REGION OF A CIRCLE BOUNDED BY AN ARC AND THE CHORD JOINING
ITS END POINTS IS CALLED SEGMENT OF A CIRCLE

MINOR SEGMENT MAJOR SEGMENT

SECTOR OF A CIRCLE
A SECTOR IS THE REGION IN THE INTERIOR OF A CIRCLE ENCLOSED BY
AN ARC AND TWO RADII THAT JOIN THE END POINTS OF AN ARC.

MAJOR SECTOR MINOR SECTOR

• The sector formed by the major • The sector formed by a minor
arc is called a major sector. arc is called a minor sector.

SEMICIRCLE
A diameter divides a circle into two equal parts. Each part is made up
of half the circumference and the diameter is called a semicircle.
The region covered by a semi circle is called a semicircular region.

ACKNOWLEDGEMEN
T
I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my teacher
Mr.Chris as well as my principal Mr.Robert Khin who gave me the golden
opportunity to do this wonderful project on the topic Circles, which also
helped me in doing a lot of research and I came to know about so many
new things I am really thankful to them.
Secondly I would also like to thank my parents and friends who helped us
a lot in finalizing this project within the limited time frame.
