Introduction
to
Islam
Islam (literally)
Islam comes from an Arabic root word which means
• "peace"
• "submission”
• “to hand-over”
• The same Arabic root word gives us “asSalaam-u-
alaykum," ("Peace be with you"), the universal Muslim
greeting.

Introduction to
Religion
The Etymology
of Religion
The term religion is derived from
the Latin religio that originally
refers to the human fear of God
or other divine beings.
Its precise Latin etymology is
unclear; Cicero traces it to
relegere, which refers to
Legal definition of Religion

In comprehensive terms, the term ‘Religion’

refers to
‘a way of life based upon obedience
to laws of some authority, and a
system of rewards and punishments
according to those laws’.
In Arabic…
The word Religion means “Deen”,
which denotes

1. “Full submission” as when they say ‫ ))دان للحاكم‬he

submitted himself to the ruler.
2. “The authority and power of domination. (‫َكَٰذِلَك ِكْدَنا‬

Religion according to Qur’an
The Holy Qur’an says,

‫َو َم ن َيْبَتِغ َغْيَر ٱِإْلْس َلٰـِم ِدي ًۭنا َف َلن ُيْق َبَل ِم ْنُه َو ُه َو ِف ى ٱْلَٔـاِخ‬

And whoever desires other than Islam as religion –
never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the
Hereafter, will be among the losers.
Why are there
Thousands of religions and
beliefs
throughout the world,

Declaration of faith

Kalema is the gateway to islam ,the arch- stone of
the faith .
 By affirming it and reciting it with sincerity and
conviction even a lifelong heathen or a polytheist
can become a muslim.
 Any one who repeats the confession
mechanically , without understanding, will not
gain recognition in the sight of ALLAH as a
muslim.
 It is therefore necessary to study it’s meaning
and implications carefully.
Declaration of faith
 Reciting This Confession , We Are Supposed
To Follow All Its Rules And Regulations , And
To Avoid What Allah Has Prohibited Us From.

 This Kalema Consists Of Two Parts . The First

Part
(‫)ال اله اال الله‬
Contains The Affirmation Of
The Oneness Of Allah.

This ‫ ال اله اال الله‬Is The Keystone Of Islam And The First And
Foremost Item In The Teachings Of All The Prophets .

The Second Part Of The Kalema Consists Of ‫محمد‬

‫الرسول الله‬
It Requires To Accept MUHAMMAD ( ‫ ) صلى الله عليه وسلم‬As An Apostle Of
ALLAH , And To Regard His Teachings And Guidance To Be The
Teachings And Guidance Of ALLAH .
