READING 1:ISAIAH 9:3-7
• 3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee
according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
• 4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the
rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
• 5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in
blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
READING 1:ISAIAH 9:3-7
• 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be
upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The
mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
• 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the
throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with
judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of
hosts will perform this.
THE FIRST NOEL
HYMN 1
The first Noel the angel did say
• 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the
virgin's name was Mary.
• 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is
with thee: blessed art thou among women.
• 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what
manner of salutation this should be.
• 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
READING II:LUKE 1:26-35
• 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
• 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him
the throne of his father David:
• 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
• 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
• 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of
the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be
called the Son of God.
O little town of Bethlehem
Stanza 1
Refrain
O little town of Bethlehem,
• For Christ is born of Mary
how still we see thee lie!
• And gathered all above
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
• While mortals sleep, the
The silent stars go by.
angels keep
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
• Their watch of wondering
The everlasting light;
love
The hopes and fears of all the years
• The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
• He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not
know him. He came to his own and his own people did not receive him. But to
all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become
children of God who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of
the will of man, but of God.
• And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory,
glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
