choose to bring, it is at YOUR OWN RISK

• Switch-off your mobile phones and deposit them in the box


provided in the class

• This will NOT be reminded in every session

• DO NOT use the electronic devices (e.g., laptops, tablets, smart phones) during
classroom sessions

• Unless the faculty permits, devices like laptops and notepads must be switched off

• The use of electronic devices for anything unrelated to the class session (e.g.,
surfing the web, checking email, text messaging, and others) is NOT PERMITTED

Any default of these directions mentioned above shall result in confiscation


of the device and shall attract penalties as per PGP handbook. TAPMI shall
not be responsible or liable for any damage, defacement, or loss of the
device during the custody duration.

Ethical Communication

Includes:

• All relevant information

• Is true in every sense

• NOT deceptive in any


way
When are you NOT ethical

• Plagiarizing - can be illegal

• Omitting essential information

• Selective misquoting – Distorting/hiding true intent of


someone else’s words

• Misrepresenting numbers – manipulating statistics/other data

- increasing/decreasing numbers

- exaggerating

- omitting numerical data

Lost in translation!

Braniff, a US-based airline:

When it translated a slogan touting


its upholstery, 'Fly in leather', in
Spanish.

It came out as "Fly naked.“


Imagine the embarrassment of
conservative Senors and Senoritas!
Coors, a beer company

It had the misfortune of its


slogan 'Turn it loose' being read
as 'Suffer from diarrhoea' in
Spanish.

Now, that seemed more like a


curse than an invitation to try
out the beer!
Swedish vacuum-cleaner
manufacturer Electrolux used
the following in an American
advertising campaign:
‘Nothing sucks like an
Electrolux’.
The Chevy Nova

It never sold well in Spanish


speaking countries…
Apparently, that had to do
with 'Nova' meaning 'it
doesn't go' in Spanish
Some Indian Resume’s speak thus:

Cover letter: "Enclosed is my resume for your viewing pleasure”

Cover letter: "You are privileged to receive my resume"

Experience: "Responsibilities included recruiting, screening,

interviewing and executing final candidates"


Cover letter: "I've updated my resume so it's more appalling to
employers"
