PHOOLAN DEVI: A TRAILBLAZER
IN HER TIME
• Phoolan Devi, born on August 10, 1963, in

Uttar Pradesh, India, was a controversial

figure known as the "Bandit Queen" and

later as a politician. Born into a lower-caste

family, she faced discrimination and abuse

from a young age. She was married off at a

young age to an older man, and she

endured years of abuse before escaping.


• She was accused of various crimes,
including murder and kidnapping,
but she claimed that she was
seeking justice for the lower castes
and oppressed women.

• In 1983, she surrendered to the


authorities and spent 11 years in
prison without trial.

• This is the story of Phoolan Devi, the


"Bandit Queen" who suffered poverty,
abuse and kidnap before fighting to
claim retribution for herself and all
low-caste women in India. She has
gained massive popular support for
her actions and has become a symbol
of hope for the downtrodden.

In 1995, one year after her release, She


won the election and served as an MP
during the term of the 11th Lok Sabha
(1996–98). She lost her seat in the 1998
election but was re-elected in the 1999
election and was the sitting member of
parliament for Mirzapur when she was
assassinated.
BANDITRY
• A former leader of the gang, Sri Ram Singh, was released

from prison together with his brother Lalla Ram Singh in

1980; they were Thakur men (Thakurs being a subcaste of

the Kshatriya caste) and thus a higher caste than the

other members. After they rejoined the bandits, a power

struggle ensued and Sri Ram murdered Vikram Mallah.

Without the latter's protection, Phoolan Devi was a

prisoner of Sri Ram; he took her to the remote village of

Behmai where she was repeatedly raped by other Thakurs.

In a final indignity, she was forced to collect water for him

from the well whilst naked, in front of the villagers

• Phoolan Marriage with Ummed Singh

• This time around Phoolan got married to


Ummed Singh. Ummed Singh fought
2004 and 2009 election on Indian
National Congress’s ticket. In 2014 he
contested election on Bahujan Samaj
Party’s ticket. Phoolan’s sister Munni
Devi later accused him of being involved
in Phoolan’s murder.

• At lastly, coming to conclusion PHOOLAN DEVI was a dynamic lady. She is revengeful
lady who killed the person who raped her when she was at teenage.

Phoolan devi has inspired several studies and artistic works.

Devi is revengeful figure and bandit queen.

Many singers came into exixtence they started singing about Phoolan devi

If Phoolan devi was still alived, she can absolutely can change the live of lower caste
people.

Not only for lower caste she also fighted for women rights and for women respects.
