INTRODUCTION

Theology is a Greek word


which is a composite of two
Greek words;

Theos - God

Logos - word, message ,


discourse etc.

It therefore means: the


message about God or the
discourse or study about God
LET THE BIBLE SPEAK…

• Hebrews 1:1-2
Long ago, at many times and in many
ways, God spoke to our fathers by the
prophets, 2 but in these last days he
has spoken to us by his Son, whom he
appointed the heir of all things,
through whom also he created the
world.
PRESUPPOSITIONS FOR
THEOLOGY
• 1. God exists- Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please Him,
for the one who comes to God must believe that
He exists, and that He proves to be One who
rewards those who seek Him.

• You examine the Scriptures because you

Biblical Theology- Is the discussion of what the bible itself
teaches God and his dealings with human beings and the
rest of creation.

Systematic Theology- is the systematized knowledge of God


of whom, through whom, and unto whom are all things.

Historical Theology- How Christians in different periods over


time interpret and understood various theological topics

Philosophical Theology- is the study of theological topics


that primarily makes use of philosophical reasoning.

Historical Grammatical, Historical Critical, Scientific,

Goal of knowledge is a knowledge of God

Examining religious belief to seek clarity

Creating logical expressions of theology


FA I T H & R E A S O N

Many people believe that Faith


and Reason conflict with each
other. They fear that Reason
will weaken Faith. Individuals
like these reduce faith to a
mere emotional experience
void of intellectual rationale.
This is why theology is so valid,
because it is this that informs
faith. (Romans 10:17)

So, then
faith cometh by
hearing, and hearing by
the word of God.
