03 Bullhead
03 Bullhead
Its is accomplished by pumping kill fluid from the surface to the bottom
perforation.
Tubing pressure is controlled by increasing or decreasing pump rate.
The bullhead procedure can be conducted by pumping:
• Down the tubing
• Down the annulus
• Down the tubing and annulus
For 2 3/8 inch and 2 7/8 inch tubing, the pump in rate should be 1.0 bpm
to 1.5 bpm when using a brine kill fluid, to keep gas from migrating while
killing the well.
Casing pressure will be applied (guideline: 500 psi) prior to initiating the
bullhead procedure.
Applied casing pressure provides detection of tubing and packer leaks
(sudden pressure increase) or casing failure (sudden pressure decrease)
while bullheading.
Use the information and data provided on the
“Simulation Exercise No. 1” handout to assist
in filling out the bullhead data sheet.
