Unit 2 Lesson 3 Elements of Art and Design

DESIGN
DESIGNrefers to a plan or drawing
produced to show the look and
function or working of a building,
garment, or other object before it is
built or made. In artwork, refers to
the look of the art piece itself.
ELEMENTS
OF DESIGN

LINE
is the path of a moving point
the mark made by a tool or
instrument as it is drawn
across a surface. It is the
visual path that directs the
eyes' movement through a
composition.
EXAMPLES OF LINE

SHAPE
is a two dimensional area that is
defined is some way, perhaps with an
outline or solid area of color. Shapes
may also be implied

FORM
are objects that have three dimensions:
length, width, and depth. This is the
configuration of an individual
component of the overall three
dimensional, geometric shapes, or
configuration.

SPACE
Space is the element of art to the
emptiness or area around or
within object. An element of art
by which positive and negative
areas are defined or a sense of
depth achieved in a work of art .

TEXTURE
refers to the way things feel
or how they look as if they
would feel if you could touch
the surface. It is the surface
quality of a material, as
perceived by the sense.

COLOR
Visible light are seen differently by the eye.
Primary colors are red, yellow, and blue.
Secondary colors are green, violet, orange.
Tertiary colors which are multiple
combinations of either primary-secondary
colors or secondary-secondary colors.
