Setting up the System
Landscape

Before R/3 and database installation:

- Define the network structure for the
system landscape
- Install the hardware and the operating
system

During R/3 and database installation:

- Create a common transport directory

After R/3 and database installation:

- For database copy, initialize the Change and
Transport Organizer (CTO)
- Setup the Transport Management System (TMS)

Change and Transport
Organizer (CTO)

- Define the system’s status as either:

New installation
Database copy or migration
- Establish the initial change request value
- Set the system change option to either:
Not modifiable

Centralized Configuration
Data
- All transport domain comprises
all R/3 Systems jointly
administrated through the TMS
- Transport paths are centrally
configured from each R/3
System to all other R/3 Systems
- The Domain controller defines
the reference configuration
- All other R/3 Systems
automatically receive copies of
the reference configuration

Initializing the Transport
Domain Controller
Transaction STMS in client 000 will:

- Assign the SAP System as the transport domain controller

- Create transport domain name DOMAIN_<SID>
- Create transport group GROUP_<SID>
- Create CPIC user TMSADM in client 000
- Create RFC destinations
- Set up file DOMAIN.CFG in the directory bin of the
common transport directory

Copyright © 2012 SofOS, C.A. Reservados todos los derechos. 20

Adding additional SAP
Systems
Transaction STMS in client 000 will:

- Obtain the transport domain controller address from

DOMAIN.CFG (or you can explicity define the address)
- Create CPIC user TMSADM in client 000
- Generate RFC destinations automatically
- Send the SAP System’s request for participation in the
transport domain to the transport domain controller

From the transport domain controller you can:

- Accept participation of additional R/3 Systems

- Test and verify TMS configuration and communication
between SAP Systems

Configuring Transport
Routes

After establishing a transport domain:

- Model transport routes from the domain controller,

using:
- Default standad configurations Use SAP standard
- One-system landscape transport routes to
create default
- Two-system landscape transport routes and
save time!
- Three-system landscape
- Distribuite the new configuration data to all SAP
Systems within the transport domain
- Activate the new configuration

Transport Routes

Each development/integration system has a consolidation route

assigned as the standard transport layer.

Distribution/Activation of
Transport Routes

- Distribution of transport routes is only possible from the

transport domain controller
- Activation of transport routes is possible either:
Remotely by the transport domain controller
Locally on each individual R/3 System
- Distribution and remote activation use a TMSSUP connection
(requiring a user ID and password)
- Activation triggers checks to verify that new transport routes do
not affect existing requests

Questions & Exercises

1. Using TMS, you can import all transport requests

listed in the production system import queue in the
given sequence. Determine whether this statement is
true or false.
True. Using TMS, you can import all transport requests
listed in the production system import queue in the
given sequence.

2. Describe the relationship between import queues and

import buffers.
The import queue in the SAP System represents the
import buffer located on the operating system level.
Import queues display the requests that are to be
imported to the target system, in the order of their
release.
