SCIENCE
 The word science comes from the
Latin word scientia, which means “to
know”.
Is a way of learning how things work.
 Systematic attempt to establish
knowledge to explain occurrences
through objective means.
SCIENCE
 Look for patterns and connections
between events in natural world
not in the supernatural.
Subject to repeated testing and
review and can never proved
beyond all doubt.
SCIENCE

It can be classified as follows:

1. Pure science- involves gathering of
information through
experimentation mainly for the
pursuit of knowledge.
SCIENCE

2. Applied science- deals with the

search for practical uses of scientific
knowledge and laws.

3. Technology- is the application pf

scientific knowledge
SCIENCE

4. Integrated science- introduces you

to the three branches of pure
science: life science, physical science
and eart science.
SKILLS
MEASURING
• denoting an
instrument or
device used to
ascertain the
size, amount, or
degree of
something.
SKILLS
ANALYZING
• to study or
determine the
nature and
relationship of
the parts of
(something)
SKILLS
OBSERVING
• to come to
realize or know
especially
through
consideration of
noted facts.
SKILLS
EXPERIMENTING
• perform a scientific
procedure,
especially in a
laboratory, to
determine
something.
PURE NATURAL SCIENCE

Science of Science of matter Science
living and energy of Earth-
things its physical
features,
origin and
composition
LIFE SCIENCE
also known as biology,
deals with all aspects of
living. It studies the
behavior, history and
development of
organisms.
LIFE SCIENCE
The FRENCH naturalist
Jean-Baptiste Lamarck
introduced the term
“biology”in the 1800s.
LIFE SCIENCE
Some of the subdivisions of
life science are the
following:
• Botany- the study of
plant
• Zoology- the study of
animals
• Genetics- the study of
the function and
behavior of genes
PHYSICAL SCIENCE
deal with the the science of matter and energy .
Some of its subdivisions are:
• Physics- the study of interaction of matter
and energy
• Chemistry- the study of the composition of
matter and the changes it undergoes
• Astronomy- the study of heavenly bodies
EARTH SCIENCE
also known as geoscience, or
the study of Earth and its neighbors
It is subdivided into specific fields of studies. Some
of which are:
• Geology- the study of the history and
structureof Earth
• Paleontology- the study of pre historic
plant and animal life through fossil
remains.
EARTH SCIENCE
• Oceanography- the study of the physical,
chemical and biological aspects of the
oceans, the ocean floor, mapping and
measuring the earth's surface and
under water.
• Meteorology- the study of Earth's weather
and atmosphere.
• Petrology- the study of rocks
