WHAT IS NANOCRYSTAL
• A nanocrystal is a material particle having at
least one dimension smaller than 100
nanometres, based on quantum dots (a
nanoparticle) and composed of atoms in either a
single- or poly-crystalline arrangement. The size
of nanocrystals distinguishes them from larger
crystals.
• Nanocrystals have a wide variety of proven and
potential applications. They have been used in the
manufacture of filters that refine crude oil into
diesel fuel. Nanocrystals can also be layered and
applied to flexible substrates to produce solar
panels.
NANOCRYSTAL IN
CONSTRACTION
• The concept of nanotechnology was originally
introduced by the famous physicist Richard
Feynman in 1959, through his talk “There’s Plenty
of Room at the Bottom”, which he delivered to an
American Physical Society meeting at the
California Institute of Technology.
• Today, nanotechnology offers potential
opportunities to create better materials with
enhanced properties for use in various application
areas. The atoms within nanoparticles are
impeccably ordered; therefore, when the
dimensions of a material are condensed from
macro-size to micro-size (nano-size), substantial
changes occur in the properties of the material.
• The lower density and higher strength properties of
nanomaterials provide a new impulse to the market
growth of green high-tech.
• Nanoparticles can assist in reducing the use of
natural materials by improving the performance of
construction materials and decreasing the
consumption of energy.
• The use of nanoparticles in construction offers a
cheaper, faster, and safer approach to the
production of construction materials.

company Italcementi.
• Nanotechnology will also have a considerable
impact on glass and therefore on windows. For
marketing purposes, these windows are
commonly called smart windows which implies
that they are multifunctional through their energy
saving, easy cleaning, UV controlling and
photovoltaic features.
• "Nanotechnology could allow the development of
materials with better insulation properties,
intelligent structures capable of optimizing the
use of energy. New insulating materials have been
developed with the help of advances in
nanotechnologies. These insulating materials are:
nanofoams, nanostructured aerogels and vacuum
insulated panels.
