This study investigates how online mentoring platforms can support entrepreneurs in establishing meaningful
mentor-mentee relationships. Conducting a field experiment in collaboration with a global online mentoring
platform, the researchers test three interventions—vicarious learning through role models, enactive mastery by
simulating mentor connections, and verbal persuasion for improved platform navigation. Results indicate that
while showcasing successful mentor-mentee relationships encourages initial outreach, it does not significantly
improve connection rates. The findings highlight challenges in fostering enduring digital mentorship connections,
particularly for women entrepreneurs, and suggest that basic training may enhance engagement, underscoring the
importance of tailored support in digital mentorship .
