NON-
MENDELIAN
INHERITANCE
Learning
Competency
The learners should be able to
explain the different patterns
of non-Mendelian inheritance.
Learning
Objectives
1. determine multiple alleles
inheritance,
2. recognize the different
blood groups;
3. solve genetic crosses
problems involving multiple
alleles and
4. appreciate its application in
blood typing
MULTIPLE
ALLELES
- when more than two alleles control
the inheritance of a character

- when there are three or more

variations of a gene. They
determine the traits an organism
possesses.
MULTIPLE
ALLELES
What blood types do you
know?

when present in the body,
stimulates the production of an
antibody. Isoagglutinogen

Blood types
A wealthy elderly couple died together
in an accident. Soon a man shows up
to claim their fortune, saying that he
is their only son who ran away from
home when he is young. Other
relative disputed his claim. Hospital
record shows that the deceased
couple were type AB and type O
respectively. The claimant to the
fortune was type O. Could he be their
son? Explain your answer.
What is the possible blood type of the
offspring if the mother has
heterozygous blood type A and the
father is heterozygous blood type B ?

will their children

CHALLENGE QUESTION
(Dihybrid)
In blood type, there is a type of protein in
surface of the RBC called Rhesus (Rh
factor), which gives us the positive (+) or
negative (-) blood type. If you have the
protein, you are Rh-positive, if you don’t,
you are Rh-negative. This is inherited
through complete dominance. Rh + is
completely dominant over Rh -.

Show a cross between an AB Rh-positive

heterozygous, and an O negative.

YOU 
