Why Describe Someone?
We describe people all the time. For example,
you might tell your friends what your boss is like.
You might tell your sister what that cute guy you
saw looks like.
Even outside of everyday conversations, it’s very
useful to know how to describe people.
Descriptions are used a lot in books, in articles
and in other kinds of communication in English.
Reading or hearing a description of someone can
give you a better idea of what they look like or
actlike.
Descriptions are also useful in thebusiness world,
often crucial to conversations and presentations
at work.
What Are the Different Ways to
Describe People?
Let’s say you want to describe a
friend, a family member or a boss.
You will probably use a few kinds of
information.
·Appearance is what someone
looks like on the outside.
·Mannerisms are the ways that
someone acts or behaves.
·Character traits are the little
things that make someone who
they are. In other words, they make
up someone’s personality.
·Emotions are what someone feels
at a certain time.
Describing Places or Things:
Painting a Picture with
Words
Descriptive writing is a form
of writing that aims to
create a vivid mental image
in the reader's mind. It uses
sensory details, figurative
language, and strong verbs
to paint a picture of a
person, place, or thing.
Adjectives are words that describe or
modify nouns. They give us more
information about the noun they are
attached to. Adjectives can describe a
noun's qualities, such as its size, color,
shape, or condition. They can also
indicate quantity or provide more
specific details about the noun.
Contoh dalam bahasa Inggris:
The big, red ball bounced high. (Big and red
describe the ball)
·She wore a beautiful, long dress. (Beautiful
and long describe the dress)
Ringkasan: Adjectives are like little helpers
that add depth and richness to our
language. They allow us to paint a more
vivid picture in our minds by providing extra
details about the nouns we use.
