2. USEFUL TIPS

This section is going to be divided in three different parts: writing, reading and listening.

WRITING:

1- If a sentence has both a direct and indirect object, there are often two possibilities of
phrases.

2- Many time expressions can come at the begginig or at the end of the sentence.

3- We can't separate the verb from his subject.

4- Adverbs can't be in the middle of the sentence.

5- Adverbs of frequency have to go before the main verb, but some of them can also go after.
An exception is in the verb ''to be'', where the frequency adverb has to follow it.

6- We mustn't start or finish a sentence with ''never/always''.

READING:

1- Read all the text before answering any question.

2- Read the instructions before you start.

3- Write the important information with your own words.

4- Don't add unecessary information or give your opinion.

5- Identify keywords in the questions and look for phrases and synonyms in
the text.

6- When you have to guess an answer that ist't in the text, try
to read''between the lines'' of the text and look for clues in the writer's choice
of words.
LISTENING:

1- Always read the questions before you listen.

2-Circle keywords so you can focus on the information you need.

3- Don't panic if you don't understand every word you hear.

3 . W R I T I N G T E M P L AT E S

In this part of the booklet we're going to analize the two types of text that we
have learned around the year.

For and Against essay:

This type of essay is usually about a controversial issue. It presents both sides
of the issue and then concludes by supporting one of the sides – normally the
second that is presented. It has the next structure:

OPENING: introduces the issue.

BODY: give arguments from both of the sides, with details and examples.

CLOSING: summarise the issue and gives the opinion.

There is also useful language to help you to improve your skills in this essay, like
phrases for introduce or finish the essay, or connectors of addition/contrast.

Here are some examples:

-Most people... -In adittion...

-One the one hand/on the other hand... -However...

-First of all... -To sum up...

-So... -In my opinion...

-Moreover...

-Because...
In this term, we have seen the opinion essay, where the writer states an
opinion and then tries to convince the reader that their opinion is correct with
arguments, facts or examples. The structure is the next one:

OPENING: introduce the issue and state your opinion.

BODY: support your opinion with reasons, facts or examples. Develop new
ideas in each paragraph.

CLOSING: summarise and restate your opinion.

4. CONNECTORS
1st term:

-We use connectors of addition to add information.

Also, as well (as), in adittion (to), besides, furthermore, moreover...

-We use connectors of contrast to link contrasting ideas.

But, nevertheless, in contrast (to), while, on the one hand/on the other hand,
however, although, even though, despite/in spite of...
2nd term:

-We use connectors of cause for introducing the reason of an action.

Because (of), since, as, due to, as a result of...

-We use connectors of result for introducing the result of an action.

In my opinion, I think this project will help all the students to improve their
English skills in all of the topics and bearings.

In my case, I will focus more on the on the reading part, because since I was
little, it was difficult for me to understand the theme of the texts and analize
them.

I recommend apps like Duolingo, which is an app that hepls you with a lots of
different languages, including English. Also, there is an app called Grammarly,
which helps you to speak and write English more fluently.
