What is the future of GLOBALIZATION in our country?

What is Globalization?

Globalization refers to the trend

toward countries joining together
economically, through education,
society and politics, and viewing
themselves not only through their
national identity but also as part of
the world as a whole.
What is Globalization?
• There was a time when most regions
were economically self-sufficient.
Locally produced foods, fuels and raw
materials were generally processed for
local consumption. Trade among
different regions was quite limited.

• Today, the economies of most

countries are so interconnected that
they form part of a single,
interdependent global economy.
Types of Globalization

1.Economic: Countries that trade with

many others and have few trade
barriers are economically globalized.
2.Social: A measure of how easily
information and ideas pass among
people in their own country and
different countries (including access to
Internet and social media networks).
3.Political: There is an amount of
political co-operation among countries.

The effects of Globalization
1. Less Job Security
In the global economy jobs are becoming more
temporary and insecure.
2. Damage to the Environment
• More trade means more transport which uses more
fossil fuels and causes pollution.
• Climate change is a serious threat to our future.
3. Cultural Impact
• Websites such as YouTube connect people across
the planet. As the world becomes more unified,
diverse cultures are being ignored.

Causes of Globalization
1. Improved Communications
The development of communication
technologies such as Internet, email and
mobile phones have been vital to the growth
of globalization because they help machines
and devices to operate throughout the world.

2. Improved Transport
The development of refrigerated and
container transport, bulk shipping and
improved air transport has allowed the easy
mass movement of goods throughout the
world.
Causes of Globalization
3. Free Trade Agreements
International organisations such as the World
Trade Organisation and the IMF also promote
free trade.

4. Global Banking
Modern communication technologies allow
vast amounts of capital to flow freely and
instantly throughout the world.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) works to achieve sustainable

growth and prosperity for all of its 190 member countries.

• Benefits/consequences of
globalization.
CONCLUSIONS
According to the foregoing analysis, globalization is not merely an
intensification of global interconnectedness brought about by market
forces and technological change. Rather, it is a worldview shaped by
capital and hegemonic power that aspires to establish a global
system in line with the interests of capital. Capitalism, as a market-
oriented system of production, has an inherent globalizing tendency.

The financial crises affecting different countries have shaken the

confidence of the advocates of globalization. The World Bank, for
example, in stark contrast to the minimalist state dictum it advocated
in the 1980s, in the early twenty-first century recognizes the
importance of the role of the state in protecting and correcting
markets.
