Strategic Organisation Development and Design
Course description
The course focuses on decisions that have to be made on the most appropriate organisational structure(s) to
ensure delivery of organisational activity. Organisation design is about shaping an organisation to maximise its
effectiveness and adaptive capacity. It has a clear link to performance management in that effective delivery of
work and output will be measured and managed. The course also focuses on how an organisation's culture,
values and environment support and enhance organisational performance and adaptability. Organisation
development includes how organisational members acquire new skills, knowledge and behaviours, and do
things differently, often as part of the application of continuous improvement strategies. The practical
applications of organisation design and organisation development concepts and the implications for the
effective management of organisations and professional practice are considered. The course requires critical
reflection on theory and practice from an ethical and professional standpoint and provides opportunities for
applied learning and continuous professional development.

DAY ONE
Organisational Development
Organisational development (OD) can be used as a proactive, continuous approach to facilitate better business
performance. It can create a culture shift, reducing staff turnover and making an organisation more productive - for short
term performance improvement and long term capability development. Despite this many organisations are not currently
utilising an integrated OD approach, and HR professionals and others working with OD often struggle to articulate exactly
what OD is and the value it offers.

Through theory, practical examples and discussion day 1 of our Masterclass will cover:
• What OD is and isn’t (with context)
• Linking strategy and execution - with a focus on tools, tactics and tips for driving value
• How OD is approached in other organisations and how to use it effectively in your own organisation
• How to drive and communicate the benefits of OD within your organisation.
• You will learn how to define and position the contribution of OD in your organisation and articulate this in the
workplace, building your own credibility.
• This OD Masterclass gives you not only the knowledge and skills needed but also the understanding and confidence
to use this, with traction, back in your organisation.

DAY TWO
Organisation Design
Organizational design is a cornerstone of competitive advantage and performance. The ability to design
organizations that are efficient enough to drive performance and flexible enough to sustain advantage is a
fundamental capability in today’s dynamic and competitive environment. Dynamic strategies call for new
organizational forms that pose complex new design challenges at all levels and in all sub-systems of the
organization.

This workshop will provide participants with core principles, models, tools and examples of organization design for
those who wish to develop a deeper understanding of this topic and to learn useable organisation design
frameworks. It addresses the core building blocks of design, and how to put them together to support strategy,
including customer focused organization and organizational approaches to facilitate innovation and reconfigurability
around opportunities and strategies. It provides a foundation of knowledge to guide organisation design and of tools
to use in leading the design process.

The workshop will provide frameworks helpful in addressing such challenges as:
• Ensuring that the design of the organization supports the business strategy
• Designing for flexibility, innovation, and rapid change
• Organizing around the customers, geographies and products
• Leveraging resources as the business becomes more complex
• Designing effective alliances, networks, and other lateral structures
• Governing a complex organization
• Approaches to integrate complex globally dispersed organizations
• Making sure the human capital approaches support the strategy
• Implementing new designs
In short, the session will simultaneously provide core design approaches and address how to apply them in today’s
complex organizational environments

Through this module, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills to tackle organisation design projects, sequence and
approach the design effectively and use various tools and techniques to make good organisation design decisions.
Through action planning, case studies and group discussions, you’ll gain the ability to control the consequences and
risks of design changes; and you’ll recognise and address design project blockers and challenges.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Payment Terms: Upon return of Registration Form, full payment must be made within ten (10) working days of the signed
registration form or prior to the start date of the training. Brazen Mind reserves to deny entry into the training should full
payment not have been received prior to this date.
Cancellations, No Shows, and Substitutions:
If you are unable to attend, a substitute delegate is always welcome at no additional charge. All bookings carry a 50% liability
immediately after a fully completed registration form has been received by the Brazen Mind. Please note that a written notice
of the cancellation must be received via mail or fax 3 weeks prior to the event date in order to obtain the balance of the event
fee as a credit to be applied against another Brazen Mind course. All fees are inclusive of a 15% service charge, which is
completely non-refundable and non-creditable. Cancellation of any event with less than 3 weeks’ notice prior to the event date
carry a 100% liability; however the delegate will still be entitled to a complete set of course documentation. If payment is not
received by the mutually agreed payment date, 10% penalty will be charged to the bill. Brazen Mind will not be able to mitigate
its losses for less than 50% of the contract value in case of dispute with the client or cancellation of this contract by any one
party. In the event that Brazen Mind cancel the event, Brazen Mind reserves the right to transfer this booking to another event
or to provide a credit of an equivalent amount to another event to be held within the following twelve months.
INDEMNITY: Should for any reason outside the control of Brazen Mind, the venue or speakers change, or the event be cancelled
due to an act of terrorism, extreme weather conditions or industrial action, Brazen Mind shall endeavour to reschedule but the
client hereby indemnifies and holds Brazen Mind harmless from and against any and all costs, damages and expenses, including
attorney fees, which are incurred by the client.
