CLASS IX
Module 2 Cell Structure Generalised animal and plant cell Generalised cell- Essential parts 1. CELL MEMBRANE ( PLASMA MEMBRANE)
The cell membrane separates the material outside the cell,
(extracellular), from the material inside the cell( Intracellular).
It is thin, flexible and living membrane.
It is composed lipo-protein.
It is selectively permeable (Semi-permeable: allows only
certain material to pass through while it prevents others) CELL WALL( Present only in plant cell) Plant cells have cell wall surrounding the cell membrane.
It is composed of cellulose, a non-living substance.
It is rigid an thus give shape to plant cell
It is freely permeable (Allow all substances in solution to
enter and leave the cell) 2. CYTOPLASM The cytoplasm is the gel-like fluid inside the cell ( Semi liquid substance)
Present between plasma membrane and nuclear membrane.
It is colourless, watery and transparent medium.
It is the medium for chemical reaction.
Contains water and soluble inorganic and organic
components and various organelles 3. NUCLEUS The nucleus, formed by a nuclear membrane around a fluid nucleoplasm, is the control center of the cell.
( details of nucleus will be covered in the following
modules) CELL ORGANELLES Cytoplasmic organelles are "little organs" that are suspended in the cytoplasm of the cell.
Each type of organelle has a definite structure and a
specific role in the function of the cell.
Examples of cytoplasmic organelles
are mitochondrion, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, plastids, lysosomes etc. (Details of organelles will be covered in next module) PLANT CELL STRUCTURE HOME WORK DRAW THE WELL LABELLED DIAGRAM OF PLANT AND ANIMAL CELL IN H.W. COPY ◦ Draw and label diagrams with pencil only. ◦ Do not colour.( marks are deducted ) ◦ Draw horizontal lines for labels do not put arrows.
WRITE THE STRUCTURAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLANT
AND ANIMAL CELL IN H.W. COPY (In tabular form) Revise the topics covered from the text book. WATCH THIS VIDEO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URUJD5NEXC8
