Aim and objectives
Aim
To evaluate the coursebook “Gateway B2” (David Spencer from Macmillan
Education in 2012)
The objectives
• To evaluate the effectiveness of “Gateway B2” Coursebook (David Spencer, 2012)
based on McDonough’s theory of “Evaluating ELT Materials”
• To find out the strengths and weaknesses of this coursebook,
• To access whether the coursebook is effective and help teachers focus on student
outcomes.
Research Questions

• How is the evaluation of Gateway B2 Coursebook based on McDonough’ s


Theory?

• What is the teaching – learning situation?

• What are the strengths and weaknesses of this coursebook?

• Does this coursebook suitable with the criteria of good coursebook proposed
by McDonough (2013)?
Expected outcomes

• The coursebook “Gateway B2” (David Spencer from Macmillan Education in


2012) will be a good coursebook because of

• its supportive teacher’s book

• its balance in presentation and practice of language.


Definition

• A coursebook evaluation is a judgment of a coursebook's materials to identify


its strengths and weaknesses. It can also be used to assess the overall
effectiveness of the materials.

• Contextualized vocabulary focuses on authentic real-world language

• make an overall assessment as to the suitability of the materials by considering


the following parameters:

- The usability factor.- the materials could be integrated into a


particular syllabus as ‘core’ or supplementary

- The generalizability factor.- a restricted use of ‘core’ features make


the materials more generally useful
