• In the 21st century, literacy includes using
technology to create multimodal texts—such
as infographics, videos, and blogs—that
combine text, visuals, and audio. This process
develops skills in design, writing, speaking,
and editing, while also improving
communication abilities like listening, reading,
and presenting, and involves exploring new
technologies for content creation

-Multimodal text combines various
communication systems to express thoughts
and feelings, including linguistic, visual, audio,
gestural, and spatial elements. Annemaree
O'Brien (2013) explains that the linguistic
system involves language, the visual system
includes images and layout, the audio system
focuses on sound, the gestural system covers
body language, and the spatial system deals
with object arrangement in space.
• Multimodal texts can be both digital
and paper-based, including books,
brochures, e-books, and blogs, as well
as live performances like ballets.
Transmedia storytelling involves using
various platforms, such as books and
films, to tell different parts of the same
story.

POWERPOINT PREZI POWTOON


POWERPOINT
– PowerPoint, created by Robert Gaskins and
Dennis Austin and released on April 20, 1987, was
initially for Macintosh computers. As part of
Microsoft Office, it allows users to create
customizable and visually appealing
presentations.
– PowerPoint is useful for personal events, academic
tasks, and business presentations, helping to display
photos, enhance lessons, and support various

professional activities while engaging audiences
effectively.
– PowerPoint provides customizable slide
designs, animations, transition effects, built-in
notes, and integration with Microsoft Office, and
it supports embedding videos for smooth
playback within presentations.

PREZI
An alternative to PowerPoint which focuses on the use of
slides is Prezi. Adam Somlat Fischer, Peter Halacsy, and
Peter Arvai were responsible for the establishment of Prezi
in 2009 in Budapest, Hungary. The term Prezi is the clipped
form of Hungarian word "presentation". Prezi is a visual
presentation platform that offers a unique canvas-based
approach, allowing users to zoom in and out on specific
areas to emphasize key points. Unlike traditional slide-
based presentations, Prezi supports video, offers a variety
of templates, and features a drag-and-drop interface for

a user-friendly animation software. With its drag-and-drop
interface and pre-designed templates, anyone can create
professional-looking animated videos.
PowToon has gained popularity for its versatility, being
used for personal, educational, and professional purposes.
It has helped reduce the high cost of animated videos,
making them accessible to a wider audience.
In just seven years since its establishment,
PowToon has achieved significant growth,
with over 16 million users worldwide, a new
PowToon created every second, and over 45
million PowToons created and shared
globally.
