Self-Awareness

•Self-awareness is at the core of everything. It describes your ability to not only understand
your strengths and weaknesses, but to recognize your emotions and their effect on you and
your team’s performance.
The Johari Window is a
tool used to enhance self-
awareness and
interpersonal relationships.
It divides personal
awareness into four
quadrants:
Self-management

• Self-management refers to the ability to manage your emotions, particularly in stressful

situations, and maintain a positive outlook despite setbacks. Leaders who lack self-
management tend to react and have a harder time keeping their impulses in check.
Social awareness

• Social awareness EI is the ability to hear and understand others' thoughts, feelings and
concerns, even when partly expressed or unspoken. It's being aware of other’s needs. It
covers how we manage the emotions of others.
Relationship Management

• Relationship Management is our ability to apply emotional understanding in our dealings

with others. This is where emotional intelligence becomes most visible to the people we
deal with (putting EI to work). It includes the ability to develop relationships, build rapport
(trust).

How to Strengthen Your Emotional
Intelligence

• Journaling: Reflect daily on how emotions influenced your decisions

and interactions to improve future responses.
• Active Listening: Eliminate distractions, focus on the speaker, and
engage with paraphrasing and non-verbal cues (e.g., nodding).
• Emotional Awareness: Reflect on strong emotions to understand
triggers and improve self-awareness and empathy.
How Emotional Intelligence Can Make
Leaders More Effective

• Impact on Organization: Leaders with low emotional intelligence can

lead to lower employee engagement and higher turnover.
• Beyond Technical Skills: Effective communication and collaboration
are key; technical skills alone aren’t enough.
• Improved Relationships: Emotional intelligence strengthens
interpersonal relationships, fostering team dynamics, empathy, and
collaboration.
• Career Growth: Mastering emotional intelligence helps leaders
advance both personally and within their organization.
