Sequence Stratigraphy
What types of correlation can be done?
Lithostratigraphical correlation: Correlates rocks of similar type (A and B are conglomerates,
while C, D, and E could be sand).

Chronostratigraphic correlation: Correlates rocks dating similar geological time formation (such
as time lines 1 and 2 are correlated, 3 and 4, etc.).

Stratigraphic, Structural,
Properties, and Seismic Display.

Other windows, such as 3D, 2D,

Map, Intersection, and Function
can be used to help correlating
well data.
Course Dataset

Gullfaks field
A major oilfield in the North Sea. Exploration
started in 1974 and is now producing through
three platforms. Commercially released data by
Statoil (a Norwegian oil company).

Field description:
Rotated fault blocks caused a structural trap.
Reservoir is mainly Lower to Middle Jurassic sandstones.
– 1.9 billion barrels of recoverable oil
– 23 billion m3 of gas
– 2.4 million tons of condensate.

Data description:
Wells, Well logs, Well tops, Velocity data, 3D seismic.
