Iodine test for Starch
The test for starch is Iodine solution

Method:
• Put your food source into a spotting tile
• add a small amount of iodine to the food source

Results;
• If the food turns blue/black then its a positive result
and the food contains starch.
• If the there is no colour change then it’s a negative
result and the food does not contain starch.
Biuret Test for Protein
The test for Protein is the Biuret Test

Method:
• Put a small amount of your food source into a test tube
• Add a small amount of Copper sulphate and sodium
hydroxide
Results:
• If the solution turns purple that is a
positive result and it contains protein
• If the solution stays the same colour it’s a
negative result and contains no protein.
Benedicts test for Glucose...
The test for glucose is the Benedicts solution
Method:
• Crush up a small amount of food and put in a test tube
• Add a small amount of Benedicts solution and heat in a
water bath for 5 mins

Results:
• A positive result is when it brick red/orange.
• If the solution stays the same colour it’s a negative result
and contains no glucose
Rubbing test for fat...
The test for Fat is the rubbing test
Method:
• Rub a small amount of dry food on some filter paper

Results:
• A positive result is when it goes translucent.
• If the paper does not change it is a negative result and
contains no fat
Alcohol test for fat...

Add alcohol and water in a test tube with the


sample

If there is fat there is a white emulsion

If there is NO fat it is a clear liquid.
