POSSESSIVES

• The possessive form is used with nouns referring to people,

groups of people, countries, and animals. It shows a relationship
of belonging between one thing and another. To form the
possessive, add apostrophe + s to the noun. If the noun is plural,
or already ends in s, just add an apostrophe after the s.

• Examples
• the car of John = John's car
• the room of the girls = the girls' room
• clothes for men = men's clothes
• the boat of the sailors = the sailors' boat
Nouns:
* We add 's to singular nouns to show possession: We are having a party at John's house.
Michael drove his friend's car.
* We add ' to plural nouns ending in -s: This is my parents' house.
Those are ladies' shoes.
* But we use 's with irregular plural nouns such as men, children, people, etc.
These are men's shoes.
Children's clothes are very expensive.
Possessive adjectives:
 to show something belongs to somebody: That's our house.
My car is very old.
 for relations and friends: My mother is a doctor.
How old is your sister?
 for parts of the body: He's broken his arm.
She's washing her hair.
