What is Natural
Calamities ??
• any catastrophic event caused by the consequences of
natural, rather than human-caused, events that results
in significant loss of human life or devastation of the
natural environment, private property, or public
infrastructure. Weather and climatic events, as well as
earthquakes, landslides, and other phenomena that
start on or within the planet's surface, can all
contribute to a natural catastrophe. Natural disasters
can strike anywhere on Earth; however, particular
types of catastrophes are generally restricted to or
occur more frequently in specific geographic locations.
PRESIDENTIAL DECREE
NO.18
• The purpose of Presidential Decree No. 18 is
to create a fund account that will finance an
Integrated Flood Control and Drainage
Program for the Metropolitan Manila Area in
the Philippines.
• The law aims to address the issue of flooding
in the area by establishing a council
responsible for implementing the program.
PRESIDENTIAL DECREE NO. 78
• Presidential Decree No. 78
(December 8, 1972) reorganized
the Weather Bureau into the
Philippine Atmospheric,
Geophysical and Astronomical
Services Administration
(PAGASA) and transferred it from
the Department of Commerce
and Industry to the Department
of National Defense.

ADMINISTRATION
• PAGASA is the Philippine national institution
dedicated to provide flood and typhoon
warnings, public weather forecasts and
advisories, meteorological, astronomical,
climatological, and other specialized information
and services primarily for the protection of life
and property and in support of economic,
productivity and sustainable development. The
government agency was created on December 8,
1972 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 78
reorganizing the Philippine Weather Bureau into
PAGASA.
•
