Product feature
Building management system integration

Using the OCI351 communication module, boilers can be integrated into building management systems
via Modbus. Thus, LMS and RVS controllers can also be integrated into boilers with a higher
performance in commercial applications.

Additional Modbus information
Modbus RTU communication protocols
Modbus RS485 has been the most common protocol in the world. It supports communications speed up to 115kbps, but most devices support
only communication up to 19.2 kbps.
Modbus RS485 is a low cost communication implementation, and it has the largest installation base and supplier network. The weak point of
Modbus is the transmission speed (since it is limited by serial line speeds) and the relatively small number of devices that can be connected to
one network. However, Modbus-RTU is still an economical and reasonable choice to the majority of the systems.
Modbus is based on a Master/Slave concept. One device is the master and sends requests to read or write data to each slave in turn. Slaves
answer to requests from the Master. Even though you can have many devices connected to one serial line only one device can talk at a time.

Installation
The new 4th Generation Serial UART uses Connector X60 and CN21

For modbus connection: the X60 should be connected to related Optional Part
Therefore, the serial „UART“ Interface PCB  should be changed  into the Analog Version  next slide

Installation

1. Switch off the power supply to the heat pump system and wait for about 5 Minutes.

2. Change to Analog Interface PCB Version (spare part no 9708302034)

3. Use the wire bundle “Analog” (spare part no 109696)

4. Connect it to X75 on heat pump controller PCB

5. Additionally connect the Modbus clip UTW-KMBXE to X60 on heat pump controller

6. Switch back on the power supply to the heat pump system.

7. Execute once the Parameters 6201 [Configuration level] to "yes" and confirm the setting with ok

Installation
When the analogue Interface PCB connected 
Main PCB (X75) will be connected to the The Interface PCB (CN22 & CN 7 and CN16 on)

Troubleshooting
Modbus on RS485

Tip #1 – 3 Wires not 2

 RS485 is 3 conductor network. You take a huge risk by not installing the 3 rd
conductor. You risk blowing 485 ports, you risk unstable operation and finally
risk of re-installation. So called ground terminal is not connection to the
Ground. It is a common interface signal. The voltage level on Tx/Rx
conductors are measured relative to this voltage level.

Tip #2 – Connection order

 Always connect the ground reference conductor first, if the system is powered OR always choose devices that have optical
isolation.

Tip #3 – Shield
 You can get away without a shield. The twisted pair used for Tx and Rx is more effective at noise cancelation than the shield.

Tip #4 – Cable location

 Take care where you run your cables. It seems obvious not to wind your caböe around other cables or sources of electricity
magnetism. Worst induced noise are switching DC or/and Variable frequency drivers.

Troubleshooting
Modbus on RS485

Tip #5 – Cable type

 Cable impedance should be less independent of distance.
Example Cat5, Belden 3106A, Belden 3107A

Tip #6 – Number of devices per trunk

 The RS4858 standard is based on 32 devices, usually a repeater is
necessary to connect all devices.

Tip #7 - Cable length

 The main cable must be no longer than 700 (1200) m! This distance does not include the branches (which must nevertheless be
short).

Troubleshooting
Modbus on RS485
Tip #8 – Topology Tip # – Termination resistance
 Best topology is single trunk that in-outs on the terminal  In order to avoid signal reflections, 120Ohm resistance
blocks of each device it connects. must be fitted on each end of the main cable. If the
Best arrangement total length of the main cable is less than 50m
termination resistances can be avoided at the ends of
the main cable.

Troubleshooting
An error may occur after changing the IF PCB
516: Heat pump missing
Why happened:
RVS21 still looking for last connection X60 while we
connected that to X75

Solution:
It means that we should reset the RVS21 to find the correct
connection.

Parameter 6201: Reset sensors to "yes" and confirm the setting
