Resultant of Two Force

Systems: Parallelogram
and Triangle Law

RESOLUTION , COMPOSITION AND RESULTANT OF FORCES
Resolution of a Force
The process of substituting a force by its components so that the net effect
on the body remains the same is known as resolution of a force.

Composition of Forces
The process of finding out the resultant force of a number of given forces is
called the composition/compounding of forces. Resultant of a system of
forces may be defined as a single force which has the same effect as the
system of forces acting on the body
Problem: Find the resultant of the two forces acting
on the bolt using parallelogram law
Triangle law of forces

The resultant of two forces acting at a point can also be found

by using triangle law of forces. If two forces acting at a point are
represented in magnitude and direction by the two adjacent
sides of a triangle taken in order, then the closing side of the
triangle taken in the reversed order represents the resultant of
the forces in magnitude and direction.

Forces Vector P and Vector Q act at an

The triangle law of forces can also be stated as, if a body is in angle θ. In order to find the resultant
equilibrium under the action of three forces acting at a point, of Vector P and Vector Q, one can
