Introduction to Microsoft Word

WHAT IS MICROSOFT WORD?
• Microsoft word is a word processing
application software.
• It can be used to write anything; a small
paragraph, a list or even a long document.
• You can edit it and give a variety of
layout to a word document.
• You can also check spellings, grammar
and pictures in your text.

Overview of Microsoft Word Interface

Layout, etc.

Creating a New Document
1. Launch Microsoft Word.
2. Explore the options for creating a new
document:
– Blank document
– Templates
– Recent documents
– From existing documents
3. Select "Blank document" to create a new,
empty document.
Saving and Opening Documents

• Save a document:
– Click on the File tab.
– Choose "Save As" or "Save" to save the
document.
– Select the location and provide a name
for the document.
• Ctrl + S for save,
• F12 For Save As
Save VS Save As
• The key difference between Save and
Save As is that Save allows you to
update a previously saved file with
new content, whereas Save As allows
you to save a new file or an existing
file to a new place with the same or
different name.
Open a document:

• Click on the File tab.


• Choose "Open" to browse for an existing document.
• Select the document and click "Open".
• Or
• Press CTRL+O On your Keyboard.
Basic Text Formatting
• Selecting text:
– Click and drag to select text.
– Use keyboard shortcuts (Shift + Arrow keys).
• Font formatting:
– Change font style, size, and color from the Home tab.
– Apply bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough.
• Paragraph formatting:
– Align text (left, center, right, justify).
– Adjust line spacing.
Inserting and Formatting Images
• Insert an image:
– Place the cursor where you want to insert the image.
– Click on the Insert tab.
– Choose "Pictures" to insert an image from your computer.
• Format an image:
– Click on the image to select it.
– Use the Picture Tools Format tab to adjust:
• Size
• Position
• Wrapping text around the image
• Applying artistic effects or borders
Spell Check and Grammar Check

• Running spell check and grammar check:


– Accessible from the Review tab.
– Click "Spelling & Grammar" to start the spell check
and grammar check process.
– Word will identify misspelled words and
grammatical errors, providing suggestions for
corrections.
Using the Find and Replace Feature

• Finding specific words or phrases in a document:


– Accessible from the Home tab.
– Click "Find" to search for specific text within the
document.
• Replacing text with another word or phrase:
– Accessible from the Home tab.
– Click "Replace" to search for specific text and replace it
with another word or phrase.
