Operating System :-

 A program which controls the execution of all other programs


(applications).

 The operating system is the most important program that runs on a


computer.

 It is responsible for the management and coordination of


activities and the sharing of the resources of the computer.
A computer system can be divided into

four components :-
 the hardware

 the operating system

 the application programs

 the users.
Operating Systems Types of User Interface :-

 Command line interface

 Graphical user interface

The objectives of OS are:-

 To make the computer system convenient and easy to use for


the user.
 To use the computer hardware in an efficient way.
 To execute user programs and make solving user problems
easier.
Examples of Operating System :-

• Support multitasking and multiuser.

• Latest version: Windows 11
Apple IOS: -

• created and developed by Apple

• Apple iOS is another operating system used for iPhone

• The official name of the Macintosh operating system.

• Created by Apple Inc .

• First version: Mac System 1 (1984)

• A freely-distributable open source

• Multitasking

Android :-
• Android is a Linux-based operating system
for mobile devices such as smartphones and
tablet computers

• First version: Android 1.0 (2008)
