• Endurance classes: E2, M2, C2
• Suitable for various climatic, mechanical, and
chemical conditions
Technical Data

• Rated voltage: 12 kV to 36 kV
• Rated short-circuit breaking current: 13.1 kA
to 31.5 kA
• Dielectric strength adjusted for altitudes
above 1000 meters
Applications

• Ideal for industrial applications like refineries

and plants
• Overhead lines and distribution systems
• Switchgear configurations in medium voltage
setups
Working Principle of VCBs

• VCBs use vacuum as the medium for arc

extinction.
• When contacts separate, an arc forms and is
extinguished quickly in the vacuum.
• The dielectric strength of the vacuum recovers
rapidly after current interruption.
Types of VCB Mechanisms

• Manual Spring-Operated Mechanism:

Requires manual charging of the closing
spring.
• Motor-Operated Stored-Energy Mechanism:
Automatically charges the closing spring using
a motor.
• Trip-Free Mechanism: Ensures the breaker
opens even if the closing command is
sustained.
Key Components of a VCB

• Pole Assemblies: Contain vacuum interrupters

and support structures.
• Operating Mechanism Box: Houses releases,
auxiliary switches, and actuating devices.
• Vacuum Interrupters: Ensure arc quenching
and quick recovery of dielectric strength.
Electrical Parameters to Know

• Rated Voltage: 12 kV to 36 kV.

• Rated Short-Circuit Breaking Current: 13.1 kA
to 31.5 kA.
• Operating Voltage of Components: Varies from
24V DC to 230V AC.
Protective Features

• Shunt Release: Enables automatic tripping by

protection relays.
• Undervoltage Release: Trips the breaker when
voltage falls below a set value.
• Current-Transformer Operated Release: Used
when no external power source is available.
Applications in Industrial Systems

• VCBs are widely used in medium-voltage

switchgear.
• Provide protection for transformers,
generators, and capacitors.
• Common in industries like refineries, power
plants, and manufacturing facilities.
