DEBATE TOPIC: THE ROLE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN

RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION

Motion: Artificial Intelligence (AI) will revolutionize the recruitment
and selection process, making traditional methods obsolete.
 For the Motion
AI can:
Objectify the process: AI-powered tools can analyze resumes and
CVs objectively, eliminating bias and ensuring fair assessment
Predict performance: AI algorithms can predict future
performance based on past data, helping to identify high-potential
candidates.
Automate tasks: AI can automate time-consuming tasks like
screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and sending
notifications, freeing up HR professionals to focus on strategic work.
Improve candidate experience: AI-powered chatbots can provide
instant responses to candidate queries, improving the overall
candidate experience.
 Against the Motion
While AI has potential, it cannot fully replace human
judgment:
Lack of human touch: AI cannot replicate the nuances of human
interaction, such as empathy, intuition, and cultural understanding.
Ethical concerns: There are concerns about bias in AI algorithms,
which could lead to discriminatory hiring practices.
Data privacy: AI relies on large amounts of data, raising concerns
about data privacy and security.
Job displacement: Overreliance on AI could lead to job
displacement for HR professionals.
 Potential Debate Points
1. The impact of AI on diversity and inclusion: How can AI be
used to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace, or
could it exacerbate existing biases?
2. The role of human intuition and judgment: Can AI ever truly
replace the human ability to assess a candidate's potential and
cultural fit?
3. The future of the HR profession: How will the role of HR
professionals evolve as AI becomes more prevalent in recruitment
and selection?
4. The ethical implications of using AI in hiring: What are the
ethical considerations and potential pitfalls of using AI to make
hiring decisions?
