Class!! Be Patience!!
PATIENCE IS VIRTUE.
let’s have a review!!
Let me ask you first about your
last topic during your Junior High
School.
About Permutation.
The Permutation - a permutation
is a calculation of the number of
ways a particular set can arrange,
where the order of the
arrangement matters.

Function and
Relation
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, you the students will be able to:
1
What is a
Relation?
• A relation is a set of ordered pairs or a bunch of points.
• In other words, the relation between the two sets is defined as the
collection of the ordered pair, in which the ordered pair is formed by the
object from each set.
Set of ordered
This mapping depicts a relation from set A into Set B. A relation
Letter pairs from Set A to Set B is a subset of A x B. The ordered pairs are

O 6

M 6
A 2 set {I,L,O,V,E,M,A,T,H} represents the domain (x values).
T 8
H 4
set {2,3,4,5,6,8} represents the range (y values).
Note that for each letter corresponds exactly one number. This
is a special kind of a function.
What is a
Function?
• A function is a relation or rule in which, for each value of the first component of ordered
pairs, there is exactly one value of the second component.
• The first component of the ordered pairs called domain and the second component of
the ordered pairs called range.

Representations of a Functions
A. Mapping Diagram
• Mapping Diagrams are best for discrete functions with a domain and range with less
than ten elements. Mapping diagrams are commonly used in computer programming to
display the behavior of a function.
B. Table of Values or Numerical
• A function is represented using a table of values or chart. Tables are best for displaying
discrete functions with unrelated input values.
C. Graph or Visual
• It was the basic representation of functions. This way of representation is very easy to
understand. The input values are marked along x-axis. For any input value, the
corresponding output value is the vertical displacement from the x-axis.

Each value of the first component of ordered pairs, there
is exactly one value of the second component.

Functions that are equations are applied to find the exact value of the output based on the
input. Functions that are graphed are used to get an overall view of the input and output
data and functions that are in table are used when a specific input are important.
ACTIVITY
Class!! before we end up our lesson today, kindly bring out your cellphones
and ipads for your game/activity today. We will be answering several
questions using KAHOOT!!. We will use your cellphones and Ipads to scan
the QR code or input the pin code provided to automatically redirect to the
game/activity today.
But to those who haven’t a cellphones / ipads with them today, you may still
be part of this activity by writing your answer to blank paper and pinned it t
after the questions.
All your answer will be check and to be recorded as this is part of your first
evaluation.
ACTIVITY
A. Read the statement carefully and choose the best answer.
1. It is a set of ordered pairs or a bunch of points and in between the two
sets is defined as the collection of the ordered pair, in which the ordered pair
is formed by the object from each set.
3. What do you call is is acollection of the first values in the ordered pairs
(Set of all input (x) values).
4. What do you call the collection of the second values in orderes pairs (Set
of all output (y) values).
