The story

of pi

 An irrational number
Introduction
+ Pi which is also known as irrational number is
either 3.14... or 22/7. It is known as irrational
number because people have not yet found out any
pattern or repetition in the number. The fraction is
rational but the decimal is irrational. Pi is a really
interesting number let's find out why-
All about pi

+ Pi is a universal constant Pi is not

only a mathematical constant but
also a universal one. It appears in
many different areas of mathematics
and science, including trigonometry,
calculus, and geometry. It is also
used in physics to calculate the
circumference and area of circles,
spheres, and other curved shapes.
What is so special
about pi ?
+ Deceptively simple, Pi is the ratio of
the circumference of a circle to its
diameter, calculated by dividing the
length of the diameter of a circle
into its circumference. The
miraculous fact about Pi is that no
matter the size of the circle, the
value does not change, making Pi a
mathematical constant.
Who invented pi ?

+ William Jones, FRS (1675 – 1 July

1749) was a Welsh mathematician,
most noted for his use of the symbol
π (the Greek letter Pi) to represent
the ratio of the circumference of a
circle to its diameter. He was a
close friend of Sir Isaac Newton
and Sir Edmund Halley.
What is pi value ?
+ The value of Pi (π) is
approximately 3.14159. It is the
ratio of a circle's circumference to
its diameter. Pi is an irrational
number, meaning its decimal
representation is infinite and non-
repeating. Despite its simple
definition, Pi has vast implications
in mathematics, science, and
engineering, shaping our
understanding of geometry,
How is pi use full ?

+ Pi (π) is essential in various fields like

mathematics, physics, and engineering.
It's fundamental for calculating the
circumference, area, and volume of circles
and spheres. In engineering, Pi is crucial
for designing structures involving curves,
like bridges and roads. It also plays a role
in signal processing, navigation systems,
and scientific research, making it
indispensable in modern technology and
everyday life.
What makes Pi an
irrational number?
+ Pi (π) is irrational because it cannot be
expressed as a finite fraction. Its decimal
representation is non-repeating and infinite,
meaning there's no pattern to its digits. This
property makes it impossible to represent Pi
as a ratio of two integers. Despite extensive
study, no simple formula or pattern governs
the digits of Pi, reinforcing its status as an
irrational number.
How is Pi used
practically?
+ Pi (π) is practically used in diverse fields. In
geometry, it's crucial for calculating areas and
circumferences of circles. Engineering relies on
Pi for designing structures like bridges and
tunnels. It's also integral to signal processing,
GPS systems, and satellite technology. In
physics, Pi aids in calculating properties of
waves and oscillations. Its ubiquity extends to
industries like manufacturing, architecture, and
telecommunications.
Facts about pi.

+ Pi is transcendental, meaning it's not the root of any

non-zero polynomial equation with rational
coefficients.
+ The digits of Pi appear to be random and have been
extensively studied for patterns, but none have been
found.
+ Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) worldwide.
+ The Guinness World Record for memorizing the most
digits of Pi is held by Rajveer Meena, who recited
70,000 digits in 2015.
+ Pi has appeared in popular culture, literature, and
art, often symbolizing mystery and infinity.
