Importance of Hadith
• Much of Islam will remain mere abstract concepts without Hadith. We
would never know how to pray, fast, pay zakah, or make pilgrimage
without the illustration found in Hadith, for these acts of worship
remain as abstract imperatives in the Qur’an
• Ḥadīth are important because without them the Qurʾān does not
make sense. They provide a context to the verses in the Qurʾān. The
Qurʾān is a rather concise book and therefore contains many general
statements. For instance, the Qurʾān commands Muslims to pray, but
it does not provide the details of how one is to perform prayer.
• The Qurʾān also commands Muslims to perform pilgrimage and give
charity, but it does not provide the details. These details are found in
the ḥadīth where the Prophet (peace be upon him) explained the
details and mechanics of prayer.

• There are dozens of verses in the Qurʾān that command Muslims to

 Hadith, the recorded sayings and actions of
the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), serves as a
crucial source of religious guidance in Islam
by elaborating on the Qur'an, providing
practical examples of how to live according
to Islamic principles, and offering a detailed
framework for Islamic law (Shari’a).
 It clarifies and expands on Qur'anic
teachings, providing context for rituals and
ethical behavior, while offering moral and
spiritual guidance to Muslims.
 The Prophet’s example, as preserved in the
Hadith, serves as a model for Muslims to
follow in all aspects of life, from personal
conduct to community interactions, helping
them to live a life in accordance with Islamic
values and the Sunnah.

Moral Guidance
 Hadith serves as a key source of moral
guidance in Islam by outlining the ethical
principles that shape a Muslim's character and
conduct.
 The sayings and actions of the Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) highlight virtues such as
honesty, kindness, patience, generosity, and
humility.
 Hadith teaches Muslims to avoid immoral
behaviors like lying, backbiting, and
arrogance, and encourages them to treat
others with fairness, compassion, and respect.
 By following the Prophet’s example, Muslims
are guided to embody these values in their
daily lives, promoting a just, ethical, and 6
harmonious society.
Political Guidance
 Hadith provides political guidance in
Islam by emphasizing principles of
justice, fairness, accountability, and
consultation in leadership.
 It teaches that rulers should govern
with integrity, protect the rights of
the people, and act in the best
interest of society, following the
example of the Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH).
 Hadith also offers guidance on
resolving disputes, ensuring social
welfare, and maintaining peace,
outlining a framework for ethical
governance.

Economic Guidance
 Hadith offers economic guidance by
promoting ethical business
practices, such as honesty, fair
trade, and avoiding usury (riba).
 It emphasizes the importance of
charity (zakat), helping the needy,
and ensuring fair distribution of
wealth.
 The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
also encouraged earning a lawful
livelihood, generosity, and avoiding
greed, fostering a balanced
approach to wealth that benefits
both individuals and society.

Social Guidance
 Promotes Kindness

 Encourages honoring Parents, Maintaining

Conclusion / Summary

 Hadith is integral to the Qur’an since they are


inseparably linked. It is impossible to
understand the Qur’an without reference to
Hadith. The Qur’an is the message, and the
Hadith explains the message by the
Messenger himself. Therefore, Hadith explains,
clarifies, and removes ambiguities about the
Qur’an. Hence, once we reject the Hadith, we
may never be able to figure out the whole
meaning of the Qur’an
