Mixed Conditionals
If the context permits, we can form mixed conditionals by
combining an If-Clause from one type with a main clause from
another

If he came back last night, he won’t be on time for
school today.
Type 2 Type 3
If you were polite, you wouldn’t have talked
like that.
Type 3 Type 2
If she hadn’t missed the she would be here now.

Other Possible Variants
 Two past tenses: If she said that, she was right.
 If + Past Tense and Present Tense: If Albert bought the car, I am
happy.
 If + Past Tense and Future: If she didn’t succeed, she will try again.
 If + Present Tense and Imperative: If she comes here, tell her to wait.
 If + Present Perfect and Imperative: If you have finished the text,
read it to me.
 If + Present Perfect and Present Tense: If she hasn’t finished her
paper, why is she in the park?
 If + Present Tense and Future Perfect: If she wins, she will have
studied hard.
 If + should + Infinitive and Imperative: If you should meet them,
remind them of us.
Wishes (wish/ if only – used to express a
wish)
Tense E.g. Use
I Wish + Past Simple (or I wish I was on holiday To say that we would like

about a present situation.
