Lesson 1 Objectives

• Get acquainted with the instructor, the peers


• Learn about the Course Syllabus i.e. the study plan
• Know about the assignments and main deadlines
• Learn how your performance is evaluated
Introduction

Snowball: students stand in a circle. The first student


introduces himself/herself (name, hobby, etc) so that the
others should remember. The second student repeats this
and tells personal information to the class. The third student
repeats about two previous students and introduces
himself/herself. And so on. In this activity students practice
their memory skills by telling personal information about
their peers.
Syllabus discussion

• What is a syllabus?
• What is the purpose of a syllabus?
• How can a syllabus help guide you through a course?
• What are the components typically included in a syllabus?
• How can you use the syllabus to prepare for exams or assignments?
Scan the syllabus and answer the questions

• What is the overall aim of this course?


• What are some of the course objectives?
• How many assessed tasks are there? What are their weights?
• What is the attendance policy for this course?
Course goal:

• to develop students’ skills and confidence in speaking informatively and


persuasively on a variety of academic topics.
Course objectives:

 Improving students’ listening and public speaking skills through


discussions, filming video podcast.
 Enlarging students’ academic vocabulary.
 Developing students’ skills in summarizing and critically analyzing
academic articles.
 Enhancing students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills by means
of case study.
Academic Integrity
• The main principles are responsibility for studies, honesty, trust, fairness,
and respect.
• Students are not allowed to use the browser translators.
• Using translators during Midterm, Endterm tests and Final exam is
considered as breaching academic integrity.
Attendance policy statement
• Being late up to 10 minutes three times and leaving the classroom for
more than 10 minutes will be counted as one missed lesson.
• There are 3 hours of on campus classes and 2 hours of
asynchronous classes. Asynchronous quizzes will influence student’s
attendance.
• If a student gets less than 5 out of 10 points for asynchronous quiz on
Teams, the attendance will be recorded as “absent”.
