Time is an ongoing
sequence of events
that happens in
our daily lives.
Two ways to show time
1. 12- hour clock
12-hour clock format
uses numbers 1 to 12 and
uses a.m. denoting
morning and p.m.
denoting afternoon.
2. 24- hour clock.
24-hour clock uses
numbers 1 to 24 and instead
of using a.m./ p.m. at the
ends of time, H (hour) is
placed. A 24- hour clock is
also called a Military Clock.

terms of time. In getting the
time spend by an object in
traveling we will use the
formula;

Who wants to read the 24-hour clock?

1100 hours
Converting 12-hour clock
to 24-hour clock:
For the first hour of the day (12:00
midnight to 12:59 AM), subtract 12
hours.

Example: 12:15 AM

12:15 – 12 = 0015 hours


From 1:00 AM to 12:59
PM, no change. Just put 0
before the first digit.

Example: 2: 59 AM

0259 hours or 0259 H


From 1:00 PM to 11:59
PM, add 12 hours.

Example: 3:45 PM
3:45 + 12:00
=15:45 / 1545 hours
Military time read and spoken
to four digits. A leading 0 is read
or spoken for the first 12 hours
of the day. On radio and for
maximum clarity, every digit is
spoken. When reading or in
casual conversation, times can
be read as three- or four-digit
numbers:
0100 – One a.m. is "Zero one hundred hours."

0630 – 6:30 a.m. is "Zero six-thirty," or


(better) "Zero six-three-zero."

1045 – 10:45 a.m. is read or spoken as "Ten


hundred forty-five" or "Ten hundred four-
five."

1159 – A minute before noon is "Eleven hundred


fifty-nine" or "Eleven hundred five-niner."
How to read 1100
hours?

Answer: Eleven
hundred hours
Group Activity:
Group 1: Direction: Write True if the statement is
correct and False if it is not.
Group 2: Read each analog clock, and write the
time in 24-hour format.
Group 3: convert each time from 12-hour to 24-
hour clock.
Group 4: Using a Cartolina or manila paper, draw a clock
showing the time 1:30 PM. And below the clock write the
time in 24-hour clock format. (Arts Integration)

How to convert time from 12-hour clock to
24-hour clock?

Answer:
For the first hour of the day (12:00
midnight to 12:59 AM), subtract 12
hours.
From 1:00 AM to 12:59 PM, no change.
From 1:00 PM to 11:59 PM, add 12 hours
For example, you do not have clock at
home. What is usually use as a timer or
alarm clock for us wake up in the
morning?

Answer: We use the sound of rooster


“Crowing”.

During afternoon, when the rooster crows


it means 3:00 PM.
