Man and His Environment
How can we Maintain and
Preserve the use of Environment? Slides by: Joselle C. De la Cruz MaEd SocStud Lesson Objectives: At the end of this lesson, student should: 1.Identify the different ways on how man can preserve the use of environment 2.Enumerate the various environmental laws in the Philippines WAYS OF MAINTAINING AND PRESERVING OF ENVIRONMENT Part I 1. QUIT BURNING WASTE Burning waste is usually an environmentally poor waste management option because potential resources are lost and it can cause air, land and water pollution. You should always try to reduce, reuse, recycle or recover your waste materials before disposing of them in the most appropriate way. 2. SAY NO TO PLASTIC It takes almost 500 years for a plastic bag to decompose and in the process it creates many harmful gasses. To address this, it is recommended to reducing the use, recycling and reusing the plastic is very important to combat global warming. 3. CONSERVE WATER Water is one basic need to live life and it is becoming an ever scarcer resource. Switch to the latest low flush toilets, use shower wisely and run your washing machine and dish washer to the full load only, to decrease wastage of water. 4. CONSERVE ELECTRICITY It is better to switch to Fluorescent light bulbs as they consumes 75% less energy and have more life time in comparison to incandescent light bulbs. Be sure to unplug your machines like TV , computer etc before leaving for a trip because stand-by functions in them consumes electricity even if they are 5. USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION DON’T BE SHY TO TAKE PUBLIC TRANSPO!
According to studies 30% of
carbon-dioxide is added to the environment by private transportation. Your little effort will help in reducing the demand of petrol and traffic on roads and will also better your physical health. 6. REFORESTATION Planting one single tree a year is a simple way to contribute to the environment. Who does not know that trees absorb carbon dioxide from the environment, which serves to decrease greenhouse gas pollution? Additionally, trees provide shade, which can reduce the amount of energy needed to cool your home. Some steps for saving rainforests and, on a broader scale, ecosystems around the world can be abbreviated as TREES: • Teach others about the importance of the environment and how they can help save rainforests. • Restore damaged ecosystems by planting trees on land where forests have been cut down. • Encourage people to live in a way that doesn't hurt the environment • Establish parks to protect rainforests and wildlife • Support companies that operate in ways that minimize damage to the environment ENVIRONMENTA L LAWS IN THE PHILIPPINES Part II Joecel Vilches Maria Ferrine Esmao REPUBLIC ACT 9003 ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT ACT OF 2000 In partnership with stakeholders, the law aims to adopt a systematic, comprehensive and ecological solid waste management program that shall ensure the protection of public health and environment.
