Why is plantation of trees important?

Trees are vital for the survival and well-being of our planet and
its inhabitants. They supply oxygen, absorb CO2, and aid in soil
erosion prevention.
Trees also provide home for a range of animals and insects, help
to conserve water, and enhance the aesthetic value of our
environments.
Furthermore, trees provide economic and health benefits by
serving as a valuable resource for forest products and have been
demonstrated to relieve stress and enhance air quality.
Overall, trees are an important aspect of our ecosystem, and their
maintenance and conservation are critical for the environmental
sustainability.
COFFEE PLANTATION

• Coffee production, cultivation of coffee plants, usually done in large commercial

operations. The two major species of coffee plants (Coffea arabica and C. canephora;
family Rubiaceae) are tropical evergreen shrubs or small trees of African origin. They are
grown for the seeds, or beans, which are roasted, ground, and sold for brewing coffee.
• Coffee has traditionally been cultivated in the shade of other trees, which mimics the
natural growing conditions of the plants in a forest understory. Some shade-grown coffee is
grown on plantations that have been planted with shade trees, which allows farmers to
space the plants as desired. On such farms, fruit and timber trees are often utilized, which
allows farmers to further supplement their income. Other growers modify existing forested
land and may or may not plant additional shade trees.

Carvings On The Temple

• The carvings are so complex that they appear to come to life, and they are
regarded as among of the finest specimens of Hoysala art. Carvings of gods and
goddesses, legendary creatures, animals, and scenes from everyday life cover
the walls. The amount of detail is just remarkable, and each sculpture is thought
to have its own story to tell.
• Some of the most notable carvings include the dancing figures of Lord Shiva and
Parvati and the portrayal of Lord Vishnu in his various avatars and many more.
The temple also has a frieze depicting scenes from the Mahabharata, including
the famous scene of Arjuna aiming at the fish's eye to win Draupadi's hand in
marriage.

Benefits:
• Economic Benefits: Among multiple organic farming advantages, the most important
element is its economic benefits. There is no requirement for extensive fertilizer and pest
control tools, HYV seeds for production of crops.
• High Return on Investment: Since biodegradable fertilizers are comparatively cheaper
than synthetic ones and are easier to find in adequate quantities and quality, farmers
partaking in organic cultivation can hope to make a high return on investment.
• Eco-Friendly: Organic farming not only leads to less water and soil pollution but also has
an indirect contribution in reducing emission of greenhouse gases.
• Quality Produce: Another advantage of implementing organic cultivation of crops is that
the produce is always of the top quality since this agricultural method only involves use of
natural resources for making fertilizers

18
Organic waste management:
• Farmers often face problems like diminishing soil fertility, poor health, crop pests, weeds, and
unsatisfactory product quality. These are creating obstacles to the economic prosperity of the
farmer. Various types of decomposed manures, excessive chemical fertilizers, and Indiscriminate
use of pesticides are adversely affecting the soil quality.
• Therefore, it is necessary to mix the organic wastes available on the farm, organic wastes
obtained from the crops, and animal dung manure in the soil to maintain the quality of the soil.
• There are many modern methods of proper management of organic wastes and crop residues
available on the farm. Through these, quality manure can prepare by decomposing field waste
easily in less time.

19
Methods :
There are different methods of Organic Waste Management:
1.Composting
2.Anaerobic Digestion
3.Vermiculture

IMPLEMENTATION IN DSATM CAMPUS

Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology and Management (DSATM) in Bangalore has

established a variety of waste management measures in order to reduce trash on
campus and enhance environmental sustainability.
• Waste segregation: Several containers have been set up on campus for various sorts
of waste, such as wet waste, dry waste, and e-waste. This helps to guarantee that
garbage is properly sorted and treated in the most efficient manner.

Composting: To manage the moist waste generated on campus, DSATM has built a
composting system. Compost is produced and used as a natural fertiliser for the campus
plants and landscaping.

Recycling: A recycling programme has been established on campus to collect and
handle dry trash such as paper, plastic, and glass. The recyclable materials are sent to
recycling facilities where they are processed and repurposed.

Awareness campaigns: The campus organizes awareness campaigns and workshops
to educate students and staff about the importance of waste management and
environmental sustainability. 21
Conclusion
• Organic farming yields more nutritious and safe food. The organic
farming process is more eco-friendly than conventional farming. It
keeps soil healthy and maintains environment integrity thereby,
promoting the health of consumers

MODULE-4
Water Conservation
Importance Of Water Conservation

• Limited Water Resources: Although water covers 70% of the Earth's surface,
freshwater accounts for only around 2.5% of it. Freshwater resources are
increasingly scarce as the global population grows and demand rises. Water
conservation contributes to ensuring that there is enough water for current and
future requirements.
• Energy Savings: Water conservation can also save energy. Water pumping,
treatment, and distribution require a significant amount of energy, so reducing
water use can reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Environmental Protection: Water conservation can also help to conserve
ecosystems and species. Water scarcity is destroying many aquatic habitats, and
saving water can help maintain healthy ecosystems and wildlife habitats.

24
Water Conservation Methods

• Fixing Leaks: Repairing leaks in pipes, faucets, and toilets can save a large
amount of water over time.
• Water-Efficient Appliances: Water consumption can be reduced by installing
water-efficient equipment such as low-flow showerheads, toilets, and washing
machines.
• Rainwater Harvesting: Collecting rainwater for gardening and other non-potable
applications can help to lessen the demand for municipal water supply.
• Grey Water Recycling: It is the process of reusing wastewater generated from
sources such as showers, baths, washing machines, and sinks, for other purposes
such as toilet flushing, landscape irrigation, and industrial processes.
