according to their
scale of measurement
Measurement

It is the

to a variable.

NOMINAL LEVEL
• It is used when we want to distinguish
one object from another for
. IDENTIFICATION purposes.
• In this level, we can only say that one
object is from another, but the amount
of difference between then cannot be
determined.
EXAMPLES
• ·Gender:
Male (M) Female (F)
• ·Civil Status:
Single Married Divorced
• ·Language:
English Filipino Spanish
ORDINAL LEVEL
• Data are arranged in some specified
ORDER or RANK
• When data are measured in this scale,
the difference between the data are not
determined, but we can say that one is
better or greater than the other.
EXAMPLES
Competition Placement:
Champion, 1st Runner – Up, 2nd
Runner – Up

Level of Satisfaction:
Very Satisfied, Satisfied, Not Satisfied,
Very Not Satisfied
INTERVAL SCALE
• If data are measured in this level/scale,
we can say not only that one object is
greater or less than the other, but we
can also specify the amount of
difference. There is no true zero value.
EXAMPLES
• Temperature
• IQ
EXAMPLES
EXAMPLES
RATIO SCALE
• Same properties with the interval scale.
The order and difference can be
described. Additionally, it has a true zero
value and the ratio between two data
• If
arethe value of data is 0, it means that it
meaningful.
doesn’t exist. No negative
measurements for Ratio scale.
EXAMPLES
• Weight/Mass
• Income of a
certain
business
• Salary of
workers
