INTRODUCTION
OVERVIEW:

The storm water drainage system internship at Aurick Construxive in Patna, Bihar
provided a comprehensive opportunity to explore the practical aspects of managing
storm water in urban environments. Aurick Construxive, a leading construction firm
renowned for its innovative infrastructure solutions, offered a hands-on learning
experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining storm water drainage systems.

During the internship, the primary focus was on understanding the critical role of storm
water drainage in mitigating flooding, erosion, and pollution. Patna, a city prone to
intense monsoon rains and periodic flooding, presented a challenging yet instructive
environment to study these systems in action.

2
AIM OF INTERNSHIP:

The internship aimed to familiarize interns with various aspects of storm water management,
including:

•System Design: Learning the principles behind designing efficient storm water drainage
networks that accommodate varying rainfall intensities and urban layouts.

•Construction Techniques: Observing firsthand the construction methods used in laying drainage
pipes, culverts, and related infrastructure.

•Maintenance Protocols: Understanding the importance of regular inspection, cleaning, and

upkeep to ensure optimal performance of drainage systems.

•Environmental Impact: Assessing the environmental implications of storm water runoff on

water bodies and ecosystems, and exploring sustainable practices to mitigate these effects.
Proficiency of Tools & Technology Used

WEEK 1: Surveying Of Site

The internship commenced with a comprehensive
introduction to site surveying techniques and CAD
fundamentals. Interns learned essential surveying methods
such as using theodolites and total stations to accurately
measure and map terrain features, elevations, and existing
infrastructure within the project site.
4
Week 2: CAD Techniques for Drainage Layouts:
During the second week, interns advanced their CAD
skills by focusing on drainage system layouts.
Practical exercises included creating detailed plans
for storm water drainage networks, incorporating
components such as pipes, culverts, and drainage
channels. Discussions on CAD best practices for
scalability and integration with survey data were also
covered.
Week 3: CAD for Detailed Drainage Layouts:
In week 3 I learnt and to utilize CAD tools, particularly
AutoCAD, to draft comprehensive layouts of the storm water
drainage system. This included designing the placement of
drainage pipes, culverts, and catch basins based on hydraulic
calculations and site-specific requirements. Practical
exercises involved incorporating design elements such as
flow direction arrows, pipe sizes, and elevation changes into
CAD drawings to ensure effective conveyance of storm water.
Week 4: Quality Assurance and Final Review:

In week 4 we conducted a thorough quality assurance

review of the CAD drawings and documentation. We
ensured that all drawings adhered to industry standards,
regulatory requirements, and project specifications. This
final review process aimed to guarantee the accuracy and
completeness of the as-built documentation before project
handover.
Learning outcomes from the Internship work
Understanding of Surveying Techniques: Interns gained practical
experience in applying surveying techniques using theodolites and total
stations to gather accurate site data, which was crucial for creating
precise CAD drawings and hydraulic models.

Professional Development: By participating in a structured internship

program at Aurick Construxive, interns gained insights into the
professional responsibilities and ethical considerations relevant to civil
engineering practice, preparing them for future career roles.

9
Integration of Design and Construction:

We learned how to integrate design principles with

practical construction considerations, ensuring that
their CAD drawings accurately reflected as-built
conditions and met project requirements.
