Fossils:
are the preserved remains or
traces of ancient organisms that
lived in the past. These remains
or traces provide scientists with
valuable information about life
forms that existed long before
humans, including plants,
animals, and microorganisms.
Fossils help to understand the
history of life on Earth and the
processes of evolution.
Types of Fossils:
1- Body Fossils:
These are the preserved remains of the
actual organism, such as bones, teeth,
shells, and plant material. Examples include:
Bones and teeth of dinosaurs or mammals.
Fossilized plants or tree resin (amber) that
contains preserved insects.
2- Trace Fossils:
These are indirect evidence of life, like
footprints, burrows, or nests, which show
the behavior or activity of ancient
organisms rather than their actual bodies.
Examples include:
Footprints or trackways of ancient
animals.
Burrows or feeding marks on plants or
animals.
Molecular Fossils:
These include traces of ancient DNA or
other molecular remnants preserved in
rocks or minerals.
